There are dog breeds for almost any specific request. The most popular family friendly breed has become the English golden retrievers. This beautiful dog was originally bred for retrieving waterfowl. It has an all sporting dog bloodline and varies somewhat between the British, American and Canadian types. In less than one century however, it has grown to be a family dog with gentle characteristics perfect for a true companion.

The British type is a bit stockier with a square head and they are usually heavier. The American type has a bit more of a sleek body. Although an agile dog, this breed is also prone to some specific ailments. They typically live ten to twelve years, on average. The most common health concern is cancer among the English golden retrievers. Hip and elbow dysplasia, eye diseases, heart problems, joint diseases and skin diseases are also things to be aware of. It is a good idea to check with the parents first, to see if you have any health concerns to look out for.
